CPEC Visitors

Thursday 15 April

CPEC was recently home for two nights to two Percherons (French Draught horses) from Melbourne who were attending the bicentenary celebration of Lachlan Macquarie’s appointment as Governor of NSW in 1810. As part of the celebration, the horses pulled a genuine 1827 funeral carriage during the official celebration which was held at North Ryde.

The two 10 year old horses, brother and sister, Mack and Jo, both stand at 16 hands and have been pulling horse drawn hearses for TJ Andrews Funeral Services for the past five years. The 1827 hearse was originally crafted by G.B Huiskamp of Winterswijk, Holland. It was discovered by the current owners in a dilapidated condition in a barn in western Victoria. It was restored by a coach builder in Castlemaine.
